Improving and preserving the smiles of Grenada’s greatest resource: Her children.
The primary focus of Spice Isle Smiles is the improvement and protection of the oral health of children throughout Grenada.
This 501(c)3 nonprofit organization partners with Grenadian schools, community organizations, dental professionals, and visiting dental team volunteers who can provide preventative and interceptive dental care to K-6 grade students in rural areas of Grenada. Visiting dental teams coordinate humanitarian efforts with the Grenadian Ministry of Health.
Additionally, Spice Isle Smiles partners with other Grenadian organizations on additional community initiatives to positively impact the lives of Grenadians.
The West Indies country of Grenada.
Located in the southern Caribbean, Grenada has become known as “the Isle of Spice” because the production of spices is such an important part of Grenadian life.

Preventative Care
70% of decay occurs on the biting surfaces of permanent molars. The decay begins in the deep anatomical grooves of these teeth. Placing resin sealants has been shown to help prevent decay in these teeth. Decay prevention reduces future dental care costs for local families.
-
Restorative Care
Saving a tooth should always be priority over extraction whenever possible. Dental cavities (caries) are an infectious disease. Left untreated, the negative systemic health effects later in life are associated with an increased incidence of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
-
Training of Local Professionals
Local involvement is critical for the long term sustainability and success of continued community dental care. Training and offering continuing dental education for local professionals is a vital part of our program.

Community Projects & Support
What else can we do? Spice Isle Smiles further aims to positively impact the lives of Grenadians by identifying, financially supporting, and seeing to completion community projects which are focused on sanitation, literacy, technology education, and environmental conservation.
